Mixed Breeds In Need:

•Provides a voice for animal welfare in our community and municipal shelter and inspires active participation within the community towards this effort

• Encourages pet adoption from local municipal shelters

• Educates the public to develop a "guardianship mentality" as opposed to the concept of pet ownership

• Reduces the serious problem of pet overpopulation by encouraging spay and neuter programs and public education

Accomplishments and Continued Goals for MBIN:

Over the course of four years Mixed Breeds In Need has helped to improve its local shelter facilities.

We installed a community painted mural in the lobby of the Town of Oyster Bay Shelter.

We donated cat playpens to help expand the adoption viewing space for adoptable cats into the lobby of the Town of Oyster Bay Shelter.

We donated flowers for the planting beds outside the shelter to improve the shelter's physical appearance.

With our encouragement the town shelter has improved its facilities with a free-play area and purchased agility training equipment

We have established a Trap-Neuter Release Program for feral cats and are starting an in house spay/neuter clinic with local veterinary volunteers, some of whom have been solicited by Mixed Breeds In Need.

With our weekly visits we have been able to identify animals that are not being adopted through the shelter system. Mixed Breeds In Need is taking over the responsibility of getting these animals adopted through our foster care and advertising program. We also removed many animals that were sick providing medicine and additional veterinay care for them with our own funds. We are continuing to act as a voice for the animals.
